Academics

Our Academic Programs

St. Joseph the Worker Hema Schools fully embraces Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), a modern, learner-centered approach designed to unlock every child’s potential. We combine rigorous academics with practical skills, creativity, and strong moral formation rooted in Christian values. Our goal is to develop confident, responsible, and well-rounded citizens equipped for both life and future careers.

Curriculum Overview

Early Childhood Development (ECDE – PP1 & PP2)

Our joyful, play-based ECDE program (ages 4–6) builds a secure foundation for lifelong learning. Through engaging activities, children develop early language, numeracy, motor skills, social abilities, and emotional regulation. Learning areas include Language, Mathematics, Environmental Activities, Creative & Psychomotor Play, and Religious Education. Christian values are gently woven in through stories, prayers, and daily examples of kindness, respect, and love.

Lower Primary (Grades 1–3)

In Lower Primary (ages 6–9), we focus on strong literacy and numeracy while encouraging curiosity and hands-on discovery. The curriculum covers Indigenous Languages, Kiswahili/English, Mathematics, Environmental Activities, Religious Education, and Creative Arts. Teachers use interactive lessons, group projects, and real-life examples to nurture CBC core competencies especially communication, critical thinking, and self-confidence while instilling discipline, respect, and Christian character.

Upper Primary (Grades 4–6)

Upper Primary deepens subject knowledge and prepares learners for Junior Secondary. Eight learning areas include English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Science & Technology, Social Studies, Creative Arts, Agriculture & Nutrition, and Religious Education. Students engage in practical projects, environmental initiatives, and introductory digital literacy while continuing to grow in CBC competencies and Christian values through moral reflection, prayer, and service.

Junior Secondary (Grades 7–9)

Junior Secondary provides broad exposure and exploration across nine core subjects: English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Health Education, Pre-Technical Studies, Social Studies, Religious Education, Agriculture/Home Science, Business Studies, and Life Skills. Learners strengthen STEM foundations, digital skills, problem-solving, and career awareness while preparing for the Grade 9 national assessment that guides future pathways. Spiritual and ethical formation remains central through chapel services, values education, and community involvement helping students grow into principled, purposeful young adults.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

Our dedicated teachers employ active, competency-based methods projects, collaborative learning, digital tools, and ongoing assessment to support every learner’s progress. We invest in continuous professional development and maintain high standards while fully integrating CBC’s seven core competencies with our emphasis on holistic Christian formation. This balanced approach consistently delivers strong academic outcomes and shapes confident, ethical individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
